It’s AI’s fault
With the rise of the machines finally here, AI has made many things easier. But while the impact is significant, I often wonder how much of the surrounding discussion is just hype.
Initially, I thought AI would replace the tasks we do. However, the more I use it, the more I see it as a powerful tool that assists rather than replaces. So, how has AI specifically affected the software development scene?
It’s easier to find information
Imagine the workflow before AI. We would Google a solution to a problem, and if lucky, the answer was on Stack Overflow. (It’s hard to believe I once forgot the name of a site that was a daily must-visit for my coding questions). Now, with AI-powered tools, we can obtain information much more quickly. These tools can sift through and synthesise answers from multiple sources at once, not just the top-ranked page or a single forum.

It’s easier to find sources
I believe that services like Google still prioritise showing the top 20 websites on a given search topic, rather than just the top 10, which typically appear on the first page of search results. Then, AI services provide a summary and cite the sources. If a particular statement catches your interest, you can follow the link to the website for more information.
Content should be more than knowledge
Content must be more than just information; otherwise, it will simply be summarised by AI services, and no one will want to visit your site. This means your site needs to demonstrate both depth and breadth of knowledge about your topic. When someone visits, they should find valuable insights that provide understanding rather than just competing with AI prompts.
This means that your content should be properly curated, and go beyond just information/knowledge but also understanding. talk about experience and concepts around your field. The things people would take years to learn on the job.
Things are moving faster
If you thought the world was a bit too fast, it has now become even faster, both positively and negatively. Therefore, you need to try as much as possible to automate.
Nothing has changed fundamentally
How we did things will not change; we as humans have settled on certain ways of doing things like using frameworks to speed up development. This won’t change; what might happen is that frameworks will be built to utilise AI.
Everything we did to improve workflows and avoid repetition will just be done better with AI. Think about the code editors, they have not changed fundamentally, they are just more automated
Conclusioon
Don’t be afraid of AI taking and taking; think of it as a tool that will make you more efficient.
